Take a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay in person
Two ways: a Stripe card reader (the donor taps their card or phone), or a QR code the donor scans and pays on their own phone.
Before you start
- For the reader: Stripe is connected and an admin connected a reader (see "Connect a card reader").
- For the QR: any card processor.
- 1
Open the card box
On Collect open "Card, Apple Pay or Google Pay".
Cards are in their own box under the form. - 2
Pick who and how much
Pick the person and type the amount (at least $1).
Who and how much for the card. - 3
With a reader
Press "Send to reader: Front desk". The page says "Ask them to tap, insert or swipe their card — or tap their phone — on the reader." It updates by itself. Then "Paid — thank you!" — press "Next".
- 4
With a QR
Press "Show a QR code — they pay on their phone". A big "Scan to pay $…" code appears. They point their camera at it and pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card. Press "Done".
The QR code option. - 5
It shows up by itself
Reader gifts appear in "Today" right away with a receipt number. QR gifts appear once the donor pays.
Tips
- A phone can't take a tap from a web page — that needs a card reader or the QR.
- With a person picked, the QR is attached to them (it shows in their open commitments until they pay). Without a person, it opens your giving page with the amount filled in.
If something isn't working
"Enter the amount (at least $1)".
Type $1 or more.
"Pick who is giving".
The reader needs a person. Pick one, or use the QR.
The reader page shows ⚠️ with a message.
The card was declined or cancelled. Press "Back" and try again or use another card.
No "Send to reader" button.
No reader is connected. An admin connects one under Collect → "Connect a card reader".
