Import people from an Excel list
Have a members list, a dinner list or an old spreadsheet? Import it straight into People. Yahiv matches the columns and won't create duplicates of people who are already here.
- 1
Tidy the spreadsheet
Put one person per row with a header row on top (for example First name, Last name, Hebrew name, Cell, Email, Address, City, State, Zip, Tags). Remove total rows at the bottom. Save it as .xlsx or .csv.
- 2
Drop it in
Go to Settings → Import and drop the file in.
Drop the spreadsheet. - 3
Make sure it says People
On the file's card, “This is” should say “People”. If it doesn't, choose People.
Each file gets a card with “This is”. - 4
Match the columns
Open “Columns: … matched — check or change”. Pick where each column goes. A column Yahiv has no box for can be kept as “Keep as custom field”, or ignored.
- 5
Add a tag (optional)
Want to find these people later? Add a “Tags” column in your spreadsheet (for example “dinner-2026”) before you import. Everyone imported also gets the tag “imported”.
- 6
Import
Click “Import everything”, answer any likely duplicates, and wait for “Import finished”.
Tips
- Hebrew names in one column (“Full name Hebrew”) are split automatically.
- Zip codes that lost their first 0 in Excel are fixed. People → Address check finds other address problems.
- A column called Employer or Company is brought in for matching gifts.
If something isn't working
It says “Choose the name columns”.
Open Columns and set at least First name, Last name, Full name, a Hebrew name or Email.
The header row is wrong.
Yahiv looks for the header in the first 15 rows. Delete title rows above the header in Excel and drop the file in again.
