Bank reconciliation: match your bank statement

Upload your bank statement as a CSV file. Each deposit is matched to the cash and check deposits you marked in Yahiv, and to single gifts (bank transfer, Zelle, DAF) of the same amount — so you see what's in the bank but missing from Yahiv.

Before you start

  • Mark cash and checks as deposited in Yahiv (Giving → Deposits) when you take them to the bank, so they can be matched.

    Download the statement

    On your bank's website, download the statement for the month as CSV (sometimes called "Excel" or "spreadsheet").

    Open Bank reconciliation

    Open Insights → "Bank reconciliation".

    Upload a statement, or connect your bank.

    Upload it

    Choose the file in "Statement CSV", type a "Name (optional)" like "Chase checking — September", and press "Upload & match". You'll see "… deposits read — … matched automatically".

    Name it so you can find it later.

    Read the three boxes

    "Deposits on the statement", "Matched / checked" and "Need a look".

    Go down the list

    Lines that need a look are at the top with "not found". Matched lines say what they matched, for example "Deposit of 6 gifts marked 2026-09-14".

    Handle each "not found"

    For each one: "Record gift" (opens a new gift with the amount filled in), "It's fine" (for example a transfer you know about), or "Not a donation". You can add a note first.

    Record it, mark it fine, or not a donation.

    Try matching again

    After recording gifts or marking deposits, press "Match again".

    Match again after fixing things.

Tips

  • A deposit is matched to gifts you marked deposited together within the 10 days before it; a single gift within 5 days before or 2 days after.
  • Money going out is ignored.
  • Tired of downloading statements? Connect your bank under Settings → Bank feed.

If something isn't working

"Couldn't find the Date and Amount columns".

Download the statement as CSV from your bank's website (not PDF), and don't change it in Excel first.

A cash deposit didn't match.

The gifts you marked deposited together must add up exactly to the bank line. Check for a missing or extra check in that deposit.

"That file is too big".

Download a shorter period (one month at a time).
