Yahrzeit reminders to the office and to the family

Before each yahrzeit, staff get a task and an alert — and, if you choose, the family gets a gentle reminder by email or the donor app.

Before you start

  • Yahrzeits saved (see "Add a yahrzeit with the Hebrew date").
  • For family emails: the person has an email and hasn't opted out.
  1. 1

    Set how early

When adding the date, set "Remind days before" — e.g. 7 for a week ahead.

How many days before to remind.
  2. 2

    Remind the family too

    Tick "email the person too".

    Tick to remind the family.
  3. 3

    What staff get

On the day the reminder is due, a task appears in "To do" and an alert in the bell: "Yahrzeit (Father — …) for … on [date] — 14 Kislev 5770".

Reminders show up as tasks in To do.
  4. 4

    What the family gets

If they use the donor app with notifications on, they get a notification. Otherwise an email: "This is a gentle reminder that the yahrzeit of … falls on … The yahrzeit begins the evening before."

  5. 5

    Use the reminder

Call the family, offer an aliyah or a Kiddush sponsorship, and make sure there's a minyan for kaddish.

Tips

  • Each reminder is sent once per year.
  • For an existing yahrzeit without the box ticked, delete it and add it again with "email the person too".

If something isn't working

The family didn't get an email.

They need an email on their profile and must not be set to "no email". If they got a donor-app notification instead, no email is sent.

No reminder came at all.

Check "Remind days before" isn't 0 and the person isn't deleted.
