Add a yahrzeit with the Hebrew date
Save a yahrzeit (or a birthday, bar mitzvah, anniversary) by Hebrew date — or type the English date and Yahiv works out the Hebrew one. Each year's date is calculated for you.
Before you start
- Your login can edit people.
- The person (the family member who keeps the yahrzeit) is in People.
- 1
Open Yahrzeits & dates
Click "Programs", then "Yahrzeits & dates". At the top it says today's Hebrew date. (Or open the person's profile → "Shul & dates" → "+ Add yahrzeit / birthday / simcha".)
The form for a new date. - 2
Who and what
Pick the "Person" (the son or daughter). Leave "What" on "Yahrzeit". In "Whose / note" type e.g. "Father — Avraham ben Yitzchak".
- 3
Enter the Hebrew date
Type the "Hebrew day" (1–30) and choose the "Hebrew month". Add the "Hebrew year" if you know it (e.g. 5770) — it helps with the special cases.
Day and month, and the year if you know it. - 4
…or the English date
Only know the English date? Leave the Hebrew boxes empty and type it in "…or English date". Tick "after sunset" if the petira was at night — the Hebrew day had already changed.
Yahiv converts the English date. - 5
Reminder
"Remind days before" is 7 unless you change it (up to 60). Tick "email the person too" to remind the family.
- 6
Save
Click "Save date". You see "Date saved". It appears under "Coming up" when it's near, and on the person's profile with "next …" and the Hebrew date.
Tips
- Use the 7 days / 30 days / 90 days / Year buttons to see what's coming.
- Yahrzeits saved on people also show on the shul screen.
- Adar in a leap year has its own rules — see "Yahrzeits in Adar (leap years)".
If something isn't working
"Choose the Hebrew day and month (or type the English date)"
Fill in both the Hebrew day and the month — or the English date instead.
The date is one day off.
If the petira was after sunset, delete it and add it again with "after sunset" ticked (or type the Hebrew date directly).
"Choose the person"
Pick someone from People first. Add the family member as a person if they're not there.
