Was a recurring gift charged twice?
Yahiv is built so one payment of a recurring gift can never be charged twice. When a donor thinks it was, it's almost always two different recurring gifts, a retry after a decline, or a pending charge that the bank shows for a day.
- 1
Look at the person's recurring gifts
Open the person, or Giving → "Recurring" and search for them. Are there two recurring gifts — for example one they set up online and one the office set up?
Search for the donor's recurring gifts. - 2
Look at the payments
Open the recurring gift. Each charge shows its date and its payment number, like "payment 4". The same payment number never appears twice as approved.
- 3
A retry is not a double
If a charge was declined and then tried again a few days later, only the try that went through took money. The declined one took nothing.
Your retry days after a decline. - 4
Bank "pending" lines
A bank may show a declined or pending attempt for a day or two. It drops off by itself — no money moves.
- 5
After Shabbos
With the Shabbos guard on, a charge due on Shabbos runs after havdalah — on a different date, but still once.
Charges wait until after havdalah. - 6
If there really are two
Cancel the extra recurring gift, and refund the extra charge from the gift's page (Refund / void).
Open the extra one and cancel it.
Tips
- Each payment is claimed before it's charged, and the processor is told its unique number — asking twice charges once.
- Before setting up a recurring gift, check the person doesn't already have one.
If something isn't working
Two charges on the same day with different payment numbers.
Two recurring gifts exist. Cancel one and refund the extra.
Charged once in Yahiv, twice on the bank statement.
One line is usually a pending authorization that drops off. Wait two business days.
