Late gemach payments and reminders
See every late loan payment in one place, know which checks to deposit this week, and how borrowers are reminded.
Before you start
- Gemach loans entered.
- 1
Open the gemach
Chesed & gemach → "Gemach (free loans)". The "Late payments" box counts them.
The boxes at the top show late payments and checks to deposit. - 2
Checks to deposit
"Post-dated checks to deposit (this week)" lists held checks due in the next 7 days with the check number. Deposit them, then mark each one "Paid".
"Checks to deposit this week" counts held checks due soon. - 3
The late list
"Late" lists payments past their date with no check held (and bounced ones), with the borrower and phone.
"Late" lists payments past their date. - 4
Automatic reminders
Three days before each payment with no check held, the borrower gets a text (or an email if no cell): "… gemach: a reminder that payment 3 of your loan, $500.00, is due …".
- 5
Call
For late ones, call the borrower. If they don't pay, call the guarantors — their phones are on the loan's page.
Tips
- Reminders aren't sent for payments covered by a held check.
- Borrowers who asked not to get texts get an email instead (if they have one).
If something isn't working
A borrower didn't get a reminder.
They need a cell (or email) and must not be opted out. Reminders are sent once per payment.
A payment with a held check is late but isn't on the "Late" list.
Payments with a held check show under "Checks to deposit" instead. Deposit it and mark it "Paid" — or "Bounced" if it came back.
