A gemach repayment check bounced
When a post-dated check from a borrower bounces, mark it "Bounced" so the payment is due again and shows as late.
Before you start
- The payment had a held post-dated check (its number shows under "Check held").
- 1
Open the loan
Chesed & gemach → "Gemach (free loans)" → click the loan.
Find the loan in "Loans". - 2
If you haven't marked it paid yet
On the payment's row click "Bounced". You see "Marked as bounced — it's due again". It shows a red "bounced" tag.
- 3
If you already marked it paid
Click "undo" on that payment (it goes back to "due"), then click "Bounced". Only the last payment recorded on it is taken back; earlier part payments stay.
- 4
It's on the late list
The gemach page shows it under "Late" with the borrower's phone.
Bounced payments appear under "Late". - 5
Collect it
Call the borrower (or the guarantor). When they pay, click "Paid" on the same row with the new method.
Call the borrower or a guarantor, then mark it paid.
Tips
- A bounced payment no longer has a check held, so it can't be "deposited" again by mistake.
- Bounced payments don't get the automatic 3-day reminder — call the borrower yourself.
If something isn't working
There's no "Bounced" button.
"Bounced" only shows for payments that had a post-dated check held. For a check they handed you later, click "undo" — the payment goes back to due — and note it on the borrower's profile.
I marked the wrong payment as bounced.
Record the money again with "Paid" on that row.
