Add the processing fee to a card gift you enter
When a donor on the phone says “add the fee”, tick one box on the gift form. Yahiv adds exactly enough that you receive the full gift after the processor's cut.
Before you start
- An admin turned on “Donor covers the processing fee” with “When staff enter a gift” (Settings → Processor rules & fees — see “Let donors cover the processing fee”).
- 1
Open Record → Gift
Pick the person and type the gift amount — the amount they want you to receive.
Type the gift itself, without the fee. - 2
Card or bank
Leave “Credit card” (or choose “ACH / bank”) and pick a saved card or type a new one.
The fee depends on which processor is used. - 3
Tick the fee box
Tick “Donor covers the processing fee — adds $…”. It may already be ticked if your admin set it that way. Untick it if the donor doesn't want it.
- 4
Check the total and charge
The dark bar at the bottom shows the total with the fee, for example “$103.40 ($100.00 + $3.40 fee)”. Click “Charge card”.
The total charged, with the fee. - 5
On recurring gifts
The same box shows on Record → Recurring gift; the fee is then added to every charge (“each time”).
Tips
- The gift's page shows “Fee covered by donor” with the gift and the fee separately.
- The fee counts toward the donor's giving and receipt, but never toward a pledge balance.
If something isn't working
I don't see the fee box.
It's only for card and bank gifts (not cash, checks, charity cards or Zeffy), and an admin must tick “When staff enter a gift” under Settings → Processor rules & fees.
The fee amount looks different for two gifts.
Each processor can have its own fee. The line above the card shows which processor this gift goes through.
