The pledge balance looks wrong

A balance that looks off is usually explained by one of these: fees the donor added, a payment not linked to the pledge, a split payment, a shared pledge, a refund or bounce, or a payment still pending.

    Open the commitment

    Open the pledge from Giving → Commitments. Look at the amount, "Balance", and every payment listed.

    Open the commitment to see its payments.

    Fees the donor covered

    If the donor ticked to cover the processing fee, the fee is on the gift but never counts toward the pledge. A $1,030 card gift that includes a $30 fee pays $1,000.

    A payment not linked

    A payment shows on the person but not on the pledge? Open the gift and choose the pledge under "Applied toward commitment", then Save.

    Split payments

    One payment can be divided between commitments. Each part counts toward its own pledge — the receipt is one, for the whole amount.

    Shared pledges

    Under "People on this commitment": "Pay it down together" means anyone's payment lowers one total. "Each pays a share" means each person owes their own part, so one person's balance is their share minus what they paid.

    Refunds, bounces, pending

    A refund or a bounced check takes the money off the pledge again. A pending bank transfer doesn't count until it clears.

    More than one pledge

    {{open_balance}} in messages, and the person's total owed, add up all their open commitments — not just this one.

Tips

  • Every balance in Yahiv is worked out the same way, so reports and the commitment page always agree.
  • Imported pledges may have a "paid in old system" line that counts as paid.

If something isn't working

The balance is a few dollars off.

Usually a fee the donor covered or a small partial refund. Open each payment and compare.

Paid in full but still shows open.

One payment isn't linked, or is still pending. Link it under "Applied toward commitment".
