Text to give: how it works

People give, check their balance and pay pledges by text message — no app and no card numbers in texts. Every account works on the Yahiv number right away; nothing to set up.

    Find your number and code

    Settings → "Text to give". The box "Your text & phone line" shows the Yahiv number and "Your code number". The code tells the Yahiv number that a text is for you.

    What donors text the first time

    They text your code to the Yahiv number, e.g. 1043. The reply says "You're connected to <your name>. Text DONATE to give (or DONATE 50 for $50), or BALANCE…". The phone remembers you after that. In one text works too: "1043 DONATE 50".

    They get a secure link

    DONATE 50 sends back a link to your giving page with $50 filled in and their name filled in if their phone is on file. They type the card on that page — never into a text — and can tick "Keep my card on file so next time I can just reply PAY by text".

    Next time: just PAY

    With a card on file, DONATE 50 is answered "reply PAY to give $50 with your Visa ending 4242". They reply PAY and it's done, with a receipt.

    Pledges: BALANCE

    BALANCE shows what they owe. With a card on file they can reply PAY (all) or "PAY 50" (part).

    See the gifts

    Gifts made this way show as "Text to give". The last ones are listed on Settings → "Phone giving line" under "Recent gifts by phone & text".

Tips

  • Card numbers are never typed into a text. The first gift is always on the secure page.
  • Add your own words (BUILD → Building campaign) — see "Set up text to give and your keyword".
  • Apple Pay / Google Pay appear on the giving page automatically when you use Stripe — great for people giving from a text link.
  • Gifts by text are billed as part of your Yahiv plan.

If something isn't working

A donor got "we couldn't find an organization with code …".

They typed the code wrong. Give them the code from Settings → Text to give.

"The Yahiv phone number isn't switched on yet".

The shared number isn't on for Yahiv yet. Nothing to do on your side — it works once it is.

"… isn't taking gifts by text right now".

Your Yahiv account is paused. Check Settings → Plan & billing.
