"Payments to check": the processor didn't answer
Sometimes the card company doesn't answer clearly — the charge may or may not have gone through. Yahiv never guesses: it puts the payment on a list for a person to check, so nobody charges twice.
Before you start
- You can sign in to your processor's own website to look up a charge.
- 1
Open Payments to check
An alert says "A card payment of $… from … needs a check: the processor didn't answer clearly. Look before charging again." Click it, or go to /gifts/review.
Each row is a payment with no clear answer. - 2
Look it up at the processor
Sign in to your processor's website. Search for the person and amount at that time.
The alert that sends you here. - 3
It was charged
If you find the charge, type its transaction number into "Transaction # (if charged)" and press "It was charged — record it". The gift is recorded with a receipt.
- 4
It wasn't charged
If there is no such charge, press "It wasn't charged". Now it is safe to try again.
Tips
- Don't press Charge again on the gift form until you've checked — that's how double charges happen.
- Approvals that couldn't be saved for a moment are recorded by themselves within a few minutes; they show "approved — being recorded".
If something isn't working
"Nothing to check — every card payment has a clear answer."
Good — nothing is waiting. The page only fills when a processor doesn't answer.
"Refunds to check" appears on the same page.
A refund didn't get a clear answer. Look it up at the processor, then press "It was refunded" or "It wasn't". The amount stays set aside until you do.
Giving shows a banner about payments to check.
Something is waiting here. Open /gifts/review and settle it before charging that donor again.
