When someone pays what they owe — all of it or part — record it so the balance goes down and they get a receipt.

  1. 1

    Start from the commitment

Open the commitment and click “Record payment” at the top. Or on the person's page open the “Commitments” tab and click “Take payment”.

    Record payment on the commitment.
  2. 2

    Check the amount

The gift form opens with the commitment already chosen in “Apply toward a commitment” and the amount set to the balance. For a part payment, type the smaller amount.

    The commitment is already chosen.
  3. 3

    How they're paying

Choose Credit card (a saved card or a new one), Check, Cash, Zelle or another type, and fill in the details.

  4. 4

    Save

Click “Charge card” or “Save gift”. The commitment's Paid and Balance update, and the payment is listed under “Payments applied”.

Tips

  • Paying two commitments with one check? See “One payment toward two (or more) pledges”.
  • If the commitment has a monthly card plan, and they paid extra instead of the next charge, tick “Skip the next recurring charge for this commitment” on the gift form.
  • The pay link on the commitment lets donors pay it themselves online.

If something isn't working

The commitment isn't in “Apply toward a commitment”.

It's fully paid, cancelled, or on another person. Check the person's Commitments tab.

I recorded the payment but forgot to apply it.

Open the gift → “Campaign, commitment & notes” → choose it in “Applied toward commitment” → Save.
