Add Hebrew names and the father's name correctly
Each person has a full Hebrew name — title, first name, last name, suffix and father's name — used on Hebrew receipts, yahrzeit lists and for search. Here is how to fill each box.
- 1
Open the person's Edit page
Open the person and click “Edit details”. Find the box “Hebrew / Yiddish name”.
The Hebrew / Yiddish name section. - 2
תואר (title)
Type the title only, for example ר׳, מו״ה, הרב, or מרת for a woman. Don't put it in the first name box.
Title, e.g. ר׳ or הרב. - 3
שם פרטי and שם משפחה
Type the first name (for example אברהם, or a double name like משה יעקב) in שם פרטי and the family name in שם משפחה.
First name and family name. - 4
סיומת (suffix)
Type a suffix like הי״ו or שליט״א if you use one.
Suffix, e.g. הי״ו. - 5
בן (father's name)
Type only the father's name, for example יצחק — without the word בן. The profile shows it under the Hebrew name after the word בן.
Only the father's name — Yahiv adds בן. - 6
Gender and save
Check “Gender (for family labels)” and click “Save changes”.
Gender sets labels like Son / Daughter.
Tips
- Hebrew and Yiddish receipts and statements use the Hebrew name, so it's worth filling in for regular donors.
- The search box finds Hebrew names too.
- Today the profile always shows בן before the father's name, also for women — that's only how it's displayed.
- Importing from Donary? Its “Jewish name” columns fill these boxes automatically.
If something isn't working
The letters come out backwards.
Type straight into the Hebrew box — it is already right-to-left. Don't paste text that already has direction marks; retype it.
The person shows only in Hebrew on lists.
They have no English name. Add at least a first or last name in English if you want it shown.
