Statements show the wrong year for some gifts
Years follow your organization's time zone. If it's set wrong, a gift late on December 31 can land in the next year. One list also counts by calendar date without your time zone.
- 1
Check your time zone
Settings → "Profile & branding" → "Time zone". It must be your real time zone, for example America/New_York (not UTC). Save.
Your organization's time zone. - 2
Check the gift's date
Open the gift and look at its "Date". A check dated January 2 but written in December belongs to January for tax purposes — that's correct.
Find the gift and check its date. - 3
Compare with the person's statement
Each person's statement ("view / print") and the Year-end packet use your time zone. Trust those.
The packet uses your time zone. - 4
The Year-end statements list
The list on Insights → "Year-end statements" groups by calendar date without your time zone. A card gift made on the evening of December 31 (US time) can show in the next year there. The person's own statement is right.
The list may differ by a late-night gift. - 5
Fix a wrong date
If the date really is wrong, change it under "Fix a mistake" on the gift — reopen the month first if it's closed.
Reopen the month first if needed.
Tips
- Card gifts can't have their date changed — that's the processor's date.
- Set the time zone when you start, before year end.
If something isn't working
The total on the list and on the statement differ.
Look for a gift made late on December 31 or early January 1 — the statement is the one to trust.
I changed the time zone; old statements still show old totals.
Open them again — they're worked out fresh each time.
